Pakistan is the world's tenth largest rice producer. Pakistan's rice exports account for more than 8% of global rice is a major crop in Pakistan's agricultural economy. Rice is a significant Kharif crop.
Pakistan produced 7.5 million tonnes of rice in 2019, ranking 10th among the world's largest rice-producing countries. Guard Basmati Rice is the oldest and most well-known brand of Guard Agricultural Research and Services Limited, Pakistan's first private sector enterprise with its own rice R&D facility. Pakistan produced 6.7 million tonnes in 2016/17, of which around 4 million were exported, primarily to neighboring nations, the Middle East, and Africa. Rice is farmed in the rich lands of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan.
